ImageAccess Version 8 - Q2/08

Version 8 of ImageAccess again presents many functional extensions and ergonomic improvements. It is ready for shipping from April 1st as the second quarterly release Q2/08. Please have a look at some of the version highlights below:

HDR / Exposure Blending

Image

Every photographer knows the problem: The scene to be captured exhibits a brightness range too high for all image sections to reproduce visible contrasts on a single image.
The new module HDR / Exposure Blending merges the best image sections of multiple images acquired with different exposure times into a contrast-optimised new target image. This technique allows on one side avoiding bright lights and overexposed spots on critical components and on the other side combining contrast critical foreground/background scenes.
The module may be applied to any number of archive images by simply selecting them. The calculated target image may be exported or directly saved in the archive again.

Fast Acquisition Mode Switching

Image

The image acquisition process in ImageAccess is optimised for one defined optical system: a Multifocus image is acquired from a camera/microscope, calibration data are read out or calculated, and an image processing function is executed: all the steps on a single key stroke.
More complex hardware systems with several cameras and/or optical devices for a multi-tude of acquisition techniques, switching was rather tedious until now. A completely new acquisition concept now allows saving and activating as many Acquisition Configurations as are required by simple selection. Each such configuration includes all functional elements, starting from the acquisition mode, the calibrating system,
the image source up to source configurations and image processing macros.

Support Office 2007/ Windows Vista

ImageThe continuously extended functionality and ergonomics of both the Word Report and PowerPoint Presentation modules are now available for the current MS Office version 2007.

Backtracking Image History

ImageBacktracking image processing operations carried out on an original image or on one of its copies is relevant for security reasons as well as for documentation purposes in standard work flows. The new function Image History, an integral part of basic ImageAccess functionality, allows graphical tracking of all op-erations done on an image by a keystroke, starting from original image down to all of its descendents.

Live Image for Assembly and Ref-erence Chart Comparison

ImageImage

Since the introduction of Live Image usage for the Measurement module in the last ImageAccess version,
the two modules Image Assembly and Reference Chart Comparison now also support this feature to offer improved assistance and efficiency.

Filter for Keyword List

ImageSelecting an expression in complex or multi-hierarchical keyword lists may be a time consuming process. The new Keyword Filter automatically reduces the available expressions to the ones matching an entered filter strin

Canon EOS 40D

Image

The new Canon SLR camera EOS 40D provides 10 mega-pixel resolution, fast and precise auto focus and a free choice of interchangeable lenses. Featuring live image display of real 1024x768 pixels, the EOS 40D arrives as one of the first Compact and SLR cameras at an unseen detail accuracy for pre-visualisation. The appropriate Imagic Plug-In displays the live image in full resolution and allows controlling all relevant camera parameters, as well as direct image acquisition as with a digital microscope camera. The EOS 40D is best suited for macro imaging. However, using special adapters, it also may be mounted onto stereo or light microscopes, thus providing a highly cost effective general purpose imaging solution.

File service

The file service avoids direct file access from the ImageAccess client to image / document files on a file server by providing a TCP/IP connection from the client to a server based service, which in turn accesses the documents via file access.

Manual Gallery Sort

The new manual sort feature for the gallery allows free arrangement of images and documents within a project. Sorting is realised by dragging the selected image(s) to the target position. The fast zooming mode via mouse wheel supports the sorting process by providing overviews.

New Multifocus

The completely revised Multifocus module for the creation of images of infinite focal depth from a series of images from different focal planes generates images of highest quality, lacking any colour and border effects, while automatically correcting image displacements caused by microscope drives.

Layout Selection for Word Report

Selecting Word layouts for automated report generation has been highly improved. An always-on-top window showing all available layouts in graphic overview mode makes report generation a single mouse click action.

Image Resizing in Word Report

Automated image resizing to standard magnifications for original image and zoom image display, cropping and selective magnification/calibration data annotation make the Word Report module to an even more professional tool.

Nikon RAW

A new Plug-In to read Nikon RAW image data has been added. It creates a thumbnail image and saves the original file as .NEF format. This format can be handled by add-in e.g. for PhotoShop.

Zeiss Mirax

A new Plug-In to read and manage Zeiss Mirax Virtual Slide data. It creates a thumbnail image, reads all relevant operating parameters and stores all related files.

4 GB DB Limite

ImageAccess Standard now support the full 4 GB data space of MS SQL Server Express

Analysis

Image Analysis has been modified regarding ergonomics and general ease-of-use. Various pop-up windows, such as the object filter, have been integrated into fixed panels, and many modifications like clearing the total result, object separation, etc have been added.

Reticule for Jenoptik Cameras

The Jenoptik camera driver now also provides an optional reticule in live image display for precision alignment.

PowerPoint

The function to read-in PowerPoint files now allows storage of the original file name in a database field for easier identification.
